Statement
My art practice uses a slow meditative and ancient process of forming hollow vessels from metal called raising. It is physically demanding but it is this physical exertion and ritual between myself, the metal and hammer that is central to my work. Pieces are made in copper, sheet bronze and incorporating parts from vintage, unwanted metal household objects, giving them a new life. Designs come from ideas, forms and misremembered imagery kept since my childhood. There are curved bases to create movement, rattles from inside and colour from the traditional patination together gives an individual character and playfulness to each of these sculptural forms.
